Conflict is a roleplay mechanism. In-character confrontation should be the byproduct of in-character reasoning and roleplay and not the result of animosities between players. Two characters may hate each other in-game but have mutual player respect out-of-character. "Griefing" will not be tolerated - and will result in being temporarily or permanently banned.
Haze uses a reaper mark system for enabling one character to kill another. A reaper mark is an on-character toggle applied by a Dungeon Master. Without a reaper mark, a character cannot mechanically kill another character.
🔥 Unless approved beforehand, "Newly created" characters will not be eligible for a Reaper Mark for a duration of ten days upon creation.
💡 All CvC should abide by the following three items prior to combat:
Important Note: Any use of hostile spells, even non-damaging ones, such as Daze, Balagorn's Iron Horn, or others, against another PC, should follow these rules regarding CvC. Just because something like "Daze" is non-damaging, does not mean that it is not a hostile action, as you are using magic to disable someone's mind, or otherwise impeding their bodies, if someone in real-life cast a spell on you that made you stand there for 15-30 seconds like an idiot unable to think or do anything, even if you were unharmed, you might still not appreciate the action.
Rule: Players must mark each other as
Hostile
by using the player list or the following commands:
--!hostile
(click the target) or
--!hostile all
Rule: Until a resolution is made between characters, they must both remain
Hostile
to one another.Guideline: Avoid just attacking another character. Players should strive to engage in a roleplaying scene prior to combat. If a DM is available, they can help facilitate this for ambushes.
The "Right to Flee" means that a character may not be blocked from leaving the area by non-combat means such as:
no other means of escape
(A one way pathfinder, ranger or druid trail for example). For clarity, combat means of blocking escape, such as by spells and consumables is permitted.

In the events where a character displays a blatant disregard for their life in a confrontational or conflict scene, and continues to escalate, a Dungeon Master may allow for a 'heat of the moment' Reaper Mark, exempting another character from the usual application process for a Reaper Mark.
Approval of an impromptu reaper mark will usually be granted through in-game tells.
In Haze, Permadeath is unforgiving and can quickly lead to frustration. In the event where a problematic situation arises from a misunderstanding or a blatant disreguard of the rules in place, please document the situation with screenshots and contact the DM team through the #contact-dm channel
on Discord. The team will investigate the situation and come to a decision promptly.
