In appearance, witches or warlocks differ little from any other arcane-touched individuals. Magic is harnessed within their body and willed into existence. However, witches and warlocks do not possess the natural gift to reach into the finite magic source of the island; instead, they call upon a part of themselves that belongs to a higher power, a Patron who has grown beyond the limits of mortals. The process through which these patrons permanently shatter a character’s “soul” and replace some fragments with parts of their own is unspeakably painful and rooted in the darkest of eldritch rites. While every witch or warlock is different, none can become one without their full consent or without seeking power through dark and vicious means.
Their magic, for all intents and purposes, is almost indistinguishable from the Arcane or the Divine—except when they call upon the tainted fragments of their souls to unleash Eldritch Blasts. Although a warlock may be of good or neutral alignment, their powers are inherently dark. Moreover, both warlocks and witches are expected by their patrons to make ever-growing offerings. Failure to do so can result in various consequences, ranging from the loss of their powers to an outright fatal seizure.
This class is locked behind Eminence Points. See Eminence Points.
Warlocks use a unique form of spellcasting known as Invocations, chosen at levels 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.
As an attack action, a Warlock may fire a blast of magic at their foes. This has a range of Medium (20m) and is a ranged touch attack that affects a single target, allowing no saving throw. An eldritch blast deals 1d6 points of damage at 1st level and increases in power as the warlock rises in level, gaining an additional 1d6 for every 2 levels after 1st. See Eldritch Blast for more details.
Fortified by the supernatural power flowing through their body, a warlock becomes resistant to physical attacks starting at 3rd level, gaining damage reduction 1/+1. This resistance improves to 2/+1 at 7th level.
Warlock and Witches' Patrons are created by the DM team. Please reach out to us via Ticket if you wish to play a warlock with thematic details about your character and how they may have come to resorting to this dark deal.
