"In the grand adventure of Dungeons & Dragons, fishing is not simply a pastime, it's a dance between patience and surprise. It is a testament to the fact that sometimes the mightiest victories come not from clashing swords, but the quiet pull of a line. Here, even a seemingly humble fish can hold a story more intriguing than a dragon's hoard."
Haze has a custom fishing system, that is quite simple, but allows for some complexity. You'll need to get your hands on a fishing pole either a survivalist can make their own, or you'll need to buy one or ask a tinkerer.
Fishing is based on 3 stats, and 1 skill. These stats, coupled with your bonuses from your rod, bait, and weather related bonuses or penalties, will affect your ability to catch fish.
B = floor(SurvSkill / 2) + (2 if Luck_of_the_Sea feat, else 0)
FishingRoll = d20
+ (WisMod + StrMod + DexMod + B)
+ (WeatherBonus + LureBonus + RodBonus)
The ability scores are used on their base values, not modified (via spells, debuffs, or other sources). The survival skill will account for all bonuses from spells, gear, or anything.
Once you have a fishing rod, you'll need bait, survivalists can make basic bait, and anyone else can make basic bait at the Cooking Station. There are better/more advanced baits, or baits you can find in the wild.
Once you have bait you can target the bait with your fishing rod to tell it to specifically use that bait (as some fish will only respond with certain bait, and not using it, can result in you not catching what you want).
Then you use the rod on Designated "Fishing Spots", there are different kinds depending on the body of water, and the biomes you are in, and they are harder/easier, based on many factors, if there is a lot of people who go through an area a lot, the DC for fishing there will be higher, because the fish are more timid, etc..
Once you use your fishing rod you will wait 18 - 27 seconds, as there are emotes and scenic text to relax you, then, you'll get told what happens, either you get nothing, you catch a fish, or...
You may find yourself without a fish, but still find something else! There are all sorts of things that are in the water, and sometimes you might pull things up, the chance of this happening varies by location.
You may find yourself angering some manner of critter, this could be something as innocuous as a crab, as venomous as a snake, or even an Octopus. These encounters are determined by the body of water you are fishing at.
Your rod has a chance to fail, before the entire rod breaks, this can mean replacing the fishing line, the fishing hook, or both. You'll need to get a new one of the item made, and use your rod on that item to replace it.
